About Josh
Joshua Evans is a trauma specialist who helps adolescents (ages 13+) and adults navigate trauma, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), complex PTSD (CPTSD), anxiety, depression, grief, and significant life transitions. He believes that while symptom relief is important, lasting change often comes from processing the experiences that continue to shape how we think, feel, and respond to the world. Joshua strives to create a safe and supportive environment where clients can move beyond simply surviving and begin living with greater peace, confidence, resilience, and purpose. For clients who wish to incorporate spirituality or faith into counseling, he can integrate these as sources of meaning, connection, and strength while respecting each client’s individual beliefs and values.
Joshua’s clinical journey began with a focus on treating substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions. Through his work with individuals experiencing substance use disorders, anxiety, depression, and other mental health concerns, he recognized that unresolved trauma was often connected to many of the struggles his clients faced. This realization inspired him to shift his clinical focus toward trauma-focused care, helping clients address the experiences contributing to emotional distress while also reducing the symptoms that interfere with daily life.
Joshua takes a compassionate, collaborative, and evidence-based approach to therapy. He recognizes that every person’s story and healing process is unique, and he works with clients to develop a treatment approach that fits their individual needs and goals. He is trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
Joshua completed EMDR training through an EMDR International Association (EMDRIA)-approved training program. He has also completed advanced training in EMDR 2.0, which draws on Working Memory Theory and builds upon traditional EMDR by intentionally enhancing activation of targeted traumatic memories while strategically increasing working memory demands during the processing of distressing memories.
Joshua is committed to continually expanding his knowledge and clinical skills to provide clients with high-quality, evidence-based trauma treatment.
Born and raised in Eastern North Carolina, Joshua understands that the people he serves are more than clients—they are members of the communities he knows and cares about. He is proud to provide care in the place he calls home.
Outside of his work, Joshua enjoys watching movies and documentaries, going to the gym, working on 3D printing projects, riding his scooter, and visiting the local dog park with his wife, Rachelle, and their two dogs, Lucy and Kimber.
