
Meet Kori
Kori Payne is a competent and compassionate Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of North Carolina and an active counselor for LifeSpring Counseling PLLC. She has been practicing and researching within the counseling/ mental health field for over 5 years. She was influenced by her own experiences in navigating through her own mental health to start the journey as a counselor and has worked to help clients engage in meaningful mental health work driven by their willingness and personal readiness.

About Kori
Educational Information:
Kori attended Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs, Georgia for 2 years and completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology/ Exercise science with a concentration in occupational therapy. She went on to Hood College in Frederick, Maryland for 3 years and completed a master’s in science with a concentration in clinical counseling. During her time in her master’s program, she focused on researching mental health practices and how it pertained to trauma-informed care and treatment. She enrolled into East Carolina University to complete her doctorate with the same research focus on working with trauma-related concepts and experiences.
Experience:
Kori has worked in a wide array of institutions within the mental health and wellness field in her over 5 years of experience. She has worked with at-risk adults, in college settings, community settings, and within the private practice setting. Her key areas of focus are working with individuals, families, and couples, with an emphasis on an older adult/ geriatric demographic. She uses her experiences from the various settings she worked within to help clients help themselves the healthiest way possible.
Counseling Style:
Kori’s practice encompasses a range of services tailored to meet the unique needs of each client, drawing from a client-centered, strengths-based approach rooted in humanistic and cognitive behavioral theories. She integrates a variety of therapeutic techniques and skill sets, including but not limited to acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), mindfulness-based interventions, and narrative therapy. Kori has developed expertise in areas such as trauma-informed care, art/ poetry therapy, and dialectical behavior therapy. Moving forward, her plans are to further develop trauma-informed care and treatment by becoming Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) certified in the next coming year.
Fun Stuff About Kori:
Kori has many hobbies and things that she enjoys! Some activities and things are playing co-ed professional volleyball, writing poetry, attending a classical music concert (or playing in one), hanging out with friends, watching horror films with her father, shopping with her mother, binge watching Japanese anime, and attending study abroad programs to explore non-Western healthcare systems.
